Automatic storage

TIDY UP BY RELYING ON THE POWER OF ALGORITHMS!

Storage is the act of putting goods in stock. It will allow to confront resources (of storage…) with needs of arrangement (of goods). Rather than freely choosing a destination location (a place in stock) in order to put the product away (what we call in our jargon a “move”), IT can help you by generating “missions”.

These missions can be “pushed” to an operator with the right credentials, directing him or her to storage areas that can accommodate the goods.

WHAT DOES AUTOMATIC STORAGE MEAN?

It is an anticipated act that responds to rules and makes it possible to organise AND control the storage.

Knowing how to store goods properly is strategic to free up capacity to do more and better

At home, you don’t store yoghurts in a basement cellar, or wine in a fridge.

Automatic storage meets two major challenges found in any warehouse: saving space and reducing travel.

Saving space means occupying the available space in the best possible way. And this depends on many parameters: the quantity, dimensions and packaging of the merchandise, possible peculiarities to be taken into account (dangerous, oversized, fragile, refrigerated material, etc.), rules that must be respected by the merchandise in stock (for example, not mixing them together for risks of contamination).

These parameters are to be compared, of course, with the available stock locations, but also the unit storage volume of each of them (cells), or their accessibility and their location in the warehouse to avoid travelling long distances with a speleologist’s outfit.

This is complex but not complicated!

The EGO WMS solution, your new “autopilot” to land your goods in stock!

EGO, our WMS logistics software, is also a super calculator equipped with hundreds of algorithms that take into account dozens of interrelated constraints in order to find the best possible locations in the warehouse. Once the calculations are complete, EGO then generates storage “missions” (also called automatic addressing) in “autopilot” mode.

These missions are based on predefined rules that are correlated with each other, allowing a destination location to be reserved. This location is then blocked in order to receive, following the mission, the goods to be stored.

Hence the art of determining the right rules for efficient storage. We can compare this art to the know-how of the airline pilot in the aeronautics industry who knows how to choose the right flight parameters so that once in the air, the plane works (almost) by itself!
